Where Is Moochie Norris Now? Coaching Group Training in Spring TX

October 22, 2026

Moochie Norris is a former NBA guard who played for the Houston Rockets, New York Knicks, Seattle SuperSonics, and New Orleans Hornets from 1999 to 2006. Today he coaches young players at Shoot 360 Houston, 26515 Border Street, Spring, TX 77373. And yes, your high schooler can train with him: Coach Moochie leads the High School Girls group class on Mondays and the High School Boys group class on Thursdays, and he also does personal training.

Who is Moochie Norris?

If you watched the Rockets in the early 2000s, you remember the speedy point guard with the famous afro. In 2002, the team even gave away a Moochie Norris bobblehead, afro included.

But the bobblehead is not the most important part of his story. What makes Coach Moochie special for young players is how he got to the NBA, and how he stayed in the game for decades. His career is a masterclass in perseverance.

What was Moochie Norris's path to the NBA?

Coach Moochie did not take a straight road. He played college basketball at three schools: Odessa College, Auburn University, and the University of West Florida. The Milwaukee Bucks drafted him 33rd overall in the 1996 NBA Draft, a second-round pick with no guarantees. He also spent time with the Vancouver Grizzlies.

Instead of giving up when an NBA roster spot was not handed to him, he went to work in the CBA (Continental Basketball Association) and kept earning recognition:

  • CBA All-Rookie Second Team with the Fort Wayne Fury
  • All-CBA Second Team in 1998
  • All-CBA First Team in 2000
  • Later led the CBA in assists with the Yakima Sun Kings, again earning All-CBA First Team honors

That work paid off. From 1999 to 2006, he played in the NBA with the Rockets, Knicks, SuperSonics, and Hornets.

Where did his career go after the NBA?

Coach Moochie kept playing and kept learning. He played in Italy for Climamio Bologna. In 2017, he was drafted by Power in the Big3, and later played for the Ball Hogs. Then he moved into coaching: he has been on staff at Victory Prep Academy in Houston and served as head coach of the Houston Push in The Basketball League. Now he brings all of that experience to the athletes at Shoot 360 Houston.

What perseverance lessons does a journeyman bring to young players?

Your athlete does not need to be headed to the NBA to learn from a career like this. Here are the lessons that show up in Coach Moochie's path, and that every high school player can use:

  1. Not being picked first is not the end. A 33rd overall pick still built a long pro career. Getting cut from a team or sitting on the bench is a starting point, not a verdict.
  2. Keep stacking proof. Every CBA honor was evidence that he belonged. In high school, that looks like better shooting numbers, sharper handles, and coaches noticing your effort.
  3. Find your role and master it. Leading a league in assists means doing the thing your team needs, at a high level, every night.
  4. Adapt to new places. Different teams, leagues, and even countries. Players who adjust to new coaches and systems stay on the floor longer.
  5. Love the game long term. Playing, then coaching for years, shows a relationship with basketball that goes beyond any single season.

Coach Moochie trains athletes at Shoot 360 Houston (also known as Shoot 360 North Houston), North Houston's Premier Training Facility. Families come from Spring, Klein, Tomball, The Woodlands, Oak Ridge, and Conroe to train with him and the rest of our coaching staff. Shoot 360 is part of a network of locations tracking 100K+ shots daily, and it is the most advanced technological basketball training facility in the world.

What is Coach Moochie's high school group training like?

Coach Moochie leads two weekly high school classes:

  • High School Girls: Mondays
  • High School Boys: Thursdays

These classes are a smart fit during the season for athletes at private schools, Klein ISD, Spring ISD, and Conroe ISD schools. Team practice focuses on your team's system. Group training adds the extra skill work, shooting reps, and feedback that help a player keep improving while games are happening. Group sizes vary, and larger classes have multiple coaches so every athlete gets attention.

Group training is included with every unlimited Shoot 360 Houston membership, and credits are available for non-members. We run shooting and skills sessions every day, so your athlete can train beyond the Monday and Thursday classes. Shoot 360 is here to help your athlete seven days a week.

Does group training with Coach Moochie actually work?

Here is what it looks like in real life. Jayla did not start basketball until her sophomore year of high school. She trained a lot with Coach Moochie, took the high school girls class, and put in big reps on the shooting machine. She went on to lead her high school team, was nominated for McDonald's All-American, earned multiple college offers, and is now playing in college on scholarship. Every athlete's journey is different, but Jayla proves that a late start does not have to be the end of the story.

Our technology backs up the hard work. The Splash Meter tracks every shot's location, arc, depth, and result, with real-time feedback and progress analytics. What gets tracked gets improved: Shoot 360 athletes see 15%+ average shooting improvement, and the average middle school athlete can increase shooting percentage by 14% in 6 months.

Families notice the culture of encouragement, too. As Xenia G. wrote in her Google review: "Moochie, and ALL the coaches are amazing and so kind... The group classes are also great and usually leave time to scrimmage at the end." Shoot 360 Houston holds 4.8 stars from 125 Google reviews.
